Testimonials from our students

What do our students think of our Aikido club.

Martial Arts classes Oxford"For me, Shudokan Aikido Oxford is quite simply the best way to spend Sunday (and Thursday) evenings! Studying Aikido has wiped away the trauma of years of being subjected to Last of the Summer Wine and Antiques Roadshow as a child. Now instead of annoying my girlfriend with my mopey end of weekend mood, I annoy her by returning home after each class and excitedly leaping around showing her my new moves, perfect! A great group of people to train with in an ever encouraging and friendly environment, long may it continue!" Pete

"Having studied and researched other styles and arts, I have come to the conclusion that Shudokan Aikido Oxford is one of the best martial arts clubs I am ever likely to encounter. Not only is Shudokan a genuine, effective martial art, in the full sense of the phrase, but it manages to avoid the macho ego tripping which pervades many other styles and systems. In a non-competetive art, the only competition is with yourself, and this allows each student to go at their own pace, continuing to improve on their faults and maintain their strengths in the way that is right for them. In addition to this, the clubs two Sensei are diligent, selfless and devoted to helping their students improve. Every member of the club is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is incredibly positive and relaxed. I have trained there for three years, and am dreading the time when I have to move on and find a club to replace this one." Jamie

"Aikido for me has become integral to my weekly routine. I'd like to think that it has helped me to become more focused on goals that I set myself. Being an art that is non competitive, Aikido allows you to develop yourself and your technique at your pace which suits me fine. As well as being an incredible martial art, Aikido introduced me to a whole community of great people." Matt

"I'm a comparatively new student to the club, having previously trained in London in a different style of Aikido.  It took me a while to find an Aikido club in Oxford I liked the look of, but this is it.  The instructors are very patient and helpful in teaching me to get to grips with the new style, the other students are friendly and the higher grade students are always prepared to take time in explaining and demonstrating the techniques. Overall it's a great environment to train in." Hannah

"...in a Martial Art where correctness of posture and accuracy of technique are paramount, Richard and J.T.'s attention to detail is the sole reason my Aikido seems to be improving." Mike

"I joined the dojo just over two years ago and I was instantly welcomed not only by Sensei Richard and JT, but by everyone else in the class. Not only have I become fit and strong, I have gained confidence and a group of great friends - I only wish I had found Aikido sooner! The lessons are always interesting and everyone, from a beginner to senior member, is always encouraged and supported for their efforts. Aikido can be done by any one, regardless of their age, fitness or strength. The only thing required is the willingness to learn and everyone in the dojo is more then happy to help." Mia
